In my opinion, books are the best accessory.

Styling Librarian Hong Kong Update Y3 Wk36

Little celebrations have peppered our days. Activities. Pictures are exploding on my phone. Many I can’t share because they have student images… Many are below.

I enjoyed being part of a puppet show for children at school to celebrate Book Week and World Book Day. We practiced many times over a few weeks to make sure we were comfortable with our lines, our props could be switched smoothly, etc. Here’s the video of the show, not fantastic audio since the microphone was having issues: https://vimeo.com/121653847

Ready....

Ready….

Our favorite author was in town! Lenore Look came to visit Hong Kong for a special Children’s Literacy Festival and also to visit a few schools. Our family had the bonus of quality time when she stayed at our apartment. It was so good to have time with Lenore again, keeping up over email has been wonderful but quality time in person was treasured. It felt like when she left one of our family members was leaving… We still have more time to spend together before she goes on to her next adventure, so I’ll be sharing a little more… We visited a few restaurants while Lenore was here. One place is called Red Pepper, yummy dinner and just down the street from our apartment. We also went to the Coffee Academics which had delicious apple cider. Another incredible author visited Hong Kong, an author hero- Deborah Wiles- it was certainly a treat to have dinner with her, many SCBWI friends and Lenore. We celebrated Lenore’s birthday at another place called Zanzo with many wonderful friends and it was quite special- even got to see Kim Michelle Toft again! Hui Lan Shan was an interesting juice place that Lenore introduced to me- love when guests teach me about our neighborhood, darn yummy interesting juice there- aloe vera as a drink, etc!

I got to meet Deborah Wiles, wow!

Many, many activities occurred this week.

There was a special day for year 3 students- Enterprise Exhibition – a culminating event after they studied about advertising and created their own businesses.

The year 6 students are working towards their exhibition and there was a special action day where they had many activities for younger students, fundraised, and provided inspiration for all.

We also had the author Nick Toczek visit our school. I’ll blog about him soon. He shared his poems in a most entertaining way and also entertained students with magic tricks and puppetry. The visit was quite a special, fun success. Many students are reading their poetry books and performing poetry with their friends now.
