Styling Librarian Saturday Book Share Soap on a Rope

”Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share”.

Here’s to celebrating books that strike my fancy every week!

Soap on a Rope by Denise Barry

I really appreciated the celebration of finding special in the ordinary. This book reminded me of a Robert Munsch story. Finding happiness with the what you have. Can you find appreciation in the unknown? Appreciated how the kids (and dog) found fun in the ordinary object- soap on a rope. Made me think about writing lists of things that are ordinary but appreciated. Or lists of surprises that you enjoyed. Would be a fun discussion to have with a class.

Book Talk: Can you appreciate an unexpected gift? Can you find fun in the ordinary? Read about how some kids receive a mysterious box in the mail and find themselves disappointed when they opened it up and found soap on a rope. Read to find out what they do next!

Goodreads Summary: “Sparking gratitude and creativity, Soap on a Rope is a beautifully water-colored illustrated story about finding surprises and fun in all shapes and sizes.
When Abby, Nolan, and their dog Foo Man Chew receive a sparkly red box in the mail they prepare themselves for a plethora of all the surprises it could contain only to be disappointed to find soap on a rope.
“A sparkly red box arrived in the mail.
Foo Man Chew grew excited as he wagged his long tail.
He hoped for a bone, just one, could it be?
They opened the box…and what did they see?”
They soon learn that not getting what you wish for is no reason to lose hope. And that surprises can come in all forms, all shapes, and all sizes. If you spark your imagination, you just might have fun with even soap on a rope.”

From the publisher:

In a time where children no longer wish for ponies but kick and scream for the newest iPhone, parents sit back and long for the days when technology and keeping up with the Joneses wasn’t so prevalent. Esteemed children’s book author Denise Barry is once again reaching deep within children’s imaginations with her new inventive and fun book Soap on a Rope (Mascot Publishing, March 24, 2015), and showing that even the smallest gift could lead to the most amazing adventure if you just use your imagination.

About Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share: I’ve had many books I review that I just want to feature. Simple and easy, celebrate a new book encounter. So that’s what Saturday Book Share is about for me, celebrating books! Perhaps some days I’ll share the book with a short reading of a portion. Or perhaps other days I’ll just share a glimpse of the book.
