In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
”Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share”.
Here’s to celebrating books that strike my fancy every week!
Grumbles from the Forest – Fairy Tale Voices with a Twist – Poems by Jane Yolen and Rebecca Kai Dotlich, illustrations by Matt Mahurin – Poetry – The best way to read a book like this is if you are reading an accompanying novel that is connected with fairytales. I personally am reading a book connected with fairy tales presently and found the twists and turns in the poems and wit as well perfectly connected to the novel. I loved the variety of poems that were shared within this book and additionally the different interpretations of fairy tales. Fantastic poetry book I know will be popular. This book is also terrific for classroom teachers who are talking about VOICE in their classroom and also different perspectives on the same story. There are a few other fairy tale poetry books like this but I think the simplicity of this book with short poems and are twisted and beautiful will be quite appealing. I also think that many of these poems yield to great classroom discussions!
Goodreads Summary: “Have you ever wondered what all of those fairy-tale characters were thinking? In this magical forest, everyone has something to say. The princess claims it wasn’t the “silly pea” that kept her awake–it was that crazy pile of mattresses–while the pea complains that the princess snores. Snow White pleads with the witch and then boldly stands up to the witch’s mirror. Goldilocks writes a letter of apology, and Officer Bruin makes promises as her surveys the crime scene in the bears’ home.
This book contains a bewitching brew of voices–bragging, warning, wondering…
Prepare to be surprised.
Prepare to be dazzled.
Prepare for magic.”

So that’s what Saturday Book Share is about for me, celebrating books! Perhaps some days I’ll share the book with a short reading of a portion.
