In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
”Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share”.
I was so honored to meet and learn with Victoria Jamieson over the summer. After doing so, I enjoyed sitting down and reading many of her picture books, think you will enjoy them as well!
Olympig! The Triumphant Story of an Underdog. By Victoria Jamieson – Really a fun sports book where a pig is clueless to the fact that he isn’t going to be successful at the animal Olympics and has an annoying radio announcer who blatantly points it out throughout the events. Love how the pig loses it when he doesn’t win what he considers his best part of the competition and learns a lesson about sportsmanship… Goodreads Summary: “Just in time for the Olympics, a spirited, sporty romp about losing gracefully
Boomer the Pig has been training hard for the Animal Olympics, so when he loses his first race, he shrugs it off and cheerfully moves on. One event after another, Boomer keeps losing, and the frustration begins to get to him. But even after coming in last in every sport, there’s no getting this Olympig down. It’s just great practice for the Winter Games!”
Bea Rocks the Flock by Victoria Jamieson – Hilarious book about a sheep that doesn’t care to be the same as everyone else and goes to the big city to try to fit in there. Hilarious all the way through, love the illustrations as much as the text! Goodreads Summary: “Bea the sheep knows she’s “ewe-nique” and when her flock doesn’t want to put up with her antics any longer she decides to go her own way. Bea moves to the big city and tries every new job she can think of–including a cloud, a library lion, and more–until she finds the confidence to be herself again and return home…only to inspire her flock to be more unique themselves. This hilarious and surprising story reiterartes a familiar lesson without talking down to the reader. From Bea’s hilarious expressions to the wacky predicaments she finds herself in, readers will be delighted with this fantastic new character and her bold personality.”
Pest in Show by Victoria Jamieson – As soon as I saw this book I thought about Nina Laden’s book Roberto the Insect Architect and how the two could be compared and shared at similar times. Just love how: Broadway, sibling rivalry, humor, music, picture books, and hilarious illustrations are all combined in one book. Also love all the subtle humor is mixed throughout as well with the spin off names of Broadway musicals connected to bugs such as: “Bugspray, Pest Side Story, and Antie” and many more. Fabulous book that can be quite a fun read aloud to have students sing along to in addition to a perfect introduction to what stages of a musical are as well! Feeling so lucky I had a chance to meet and chat with Victoria! Goodreads Summary: “Ladybug knows she was born to be a star. She can’t wait to sing and dance in her newest musical, which will be her best show ever. Ladybug won’t let anyone get in the way of her performance…especially her little brother, Fly. He’s a pest! But Fly is determined to be part of the act, no matter what. Is the show big enough for this sibling rivalry?”
About Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share: I’ve had many books I review that I just want to feature. Simple and easy, celebrate a new book encounter. So that’s what Saturday Book Share is about for me, celebrating books! Perhaps some days I’ll share the book with a short reading of a portion. Or perhaps other days I’ll just share a glimpse of the book.
