In my opinion, books are the best accessory.

Styling Librarian Special Book Review: Gracefully Grayson

Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky – Absolutely loved this book, Book release date: November 4th, 2014. (Happy book birthday!) This book should be in all school libraries. It develops empathy in an unexpected, beautiful way. I’ve appreciated transgender books before but the touching, thoughtful way Grayson, main character, experiences his life is incredible. I cannot imagine going around in a fog feeling half there, hidden, unable to trust others and just be myself but reading this book really put me there. I loved the teachers in this book, the librarian, the story of loss and simultaneously the story of growth and hope. Absolutely touching, beautiful book. Really, should be in every school library. It will help others understand how their actions impact others…

Favorite quotes: “Take important action despite fear.”
“Well, I think to be brave, you have to be scared at the same time. To be brave means there’s something important you have to do and you’re scared, but you do it anyway.”

Goodreads Summary: “Alone at home, twelve-year-old Grayson Sender glows, immersed in beautiful thoughts and dreams. But at school, Grayson grasps at shadows, determined to fly under the radar. Because Grayson has been holding onto a secret for what seems like forever: “he” is a girl on the inside, stuck in the wrong gender’s body.
The weight of this secret is crushing, but leaving it behind would mean facing ridicule, scorn, and rejection. Despite these dangers, Grayson’s true self itches to break free. Strengthened by an unexpected friendship and a caring teacher who gives her a chance to step into the spotlight, Grayson might finally have the tools to let her inner light shine.”

Lovely review, Debbie. I agree that every library should have this, for those who need it, and for those who seek to understand.
