In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
A little post for the week, we’re presently in Portland, Oregon… so I’m prewriting these posts with little bits on past week’s adventures. I will certainly share about Oregon adventures on posts soon, but want to just focus on family times and working on my personal writing projects at the beginning of the holiday.
We tried out a Groupon restaurant and then I realized I had double booked myself for the evening, had mushrooms at the Groupon place and then ran to meet a SCBWI critique writing group and have a little salmon with fascinating flavor.
Students in the library are having a blast with loom bands almost every lunch recess. I personally love watching their talent in action. Also enjoying supporting students’ needs to have fun playing games in the library. There were many games donated including chess, chinese checkers, Risk, Mastermind, and more. We already had a strong group of students that are quite devoted to playing Top Trumps during lunch but I love how many are coming in to interact and play with one another now. Sure, there’s technology being used as well, but I find that it is balancing out pretty well which was my hope.
Enjoyed a little art around Hong Kong as well. The opportunity to see art creations is just unlimited. This time there was a wonderful Mardi Gras art display created by children in Tai Koo Shing, CityPlaza Mall.
Really enjoyed learning with Leonard Marcus presentation about What Makes a Great Picture Book GREAT. Loved learning more and more about the beginnings of picture books and how they developed and were influenced through the years. Also enjoyed visiting with the SCBWI group for dinner after the lecture with Leonard Marcus as well. We went to The China Club and it was quite an enchanting location. I couldn’t stop looking at the paintings and art creations around the whole place.
