In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
Here’s my Whatever Wednesday Randomness:
I have kept up with numerous former students over the years, love doing so. They’re important pieces of me. I was at my old school for 12 years, so some students I taught I watched growing up from birth. I additionally taught numerous siblings, cousins, and honestly adored my students. I am honored when they continue to touch base with me, ask book related questions, and chat. I have kept up with families as well through Facebook, email, Twitter, etc. Sometimes there are the hard times though. Learning about a former student who was stationed overseas was killed, breaks my heart. Finding out a former student is fighting for her life against a pernicious cancer like ASPS, alveolar soft part sarcoma, is heartwrenching. Through Facebook, I’ve kept up with a family that I cared about and watched deal with the unexpected, challenging fight against cancer. The community has stood up and supports this family through multiple fundraising events from soccer tournaments to marathons to dances. They are now taking the risk of sharing their lives with the world, asking for their videos to be shared and Nathalie’s voice to be heard. Thought I’d share Nathalie’s videos, articles, and something I created in honor of Nathalie and the value of health. I’d appreciate you sharing the videos I’ve embedded below. I hope they reach the right people and can help Nathalie’s fight for hope, health, and life. Also, please consider “liking” the 4Nathalie Facebook page, it continues to inspire me. There’s a call to action page with more opportunities to help support Nathalie here: http://www.4nathalie.com/cta/
Here was one of the first of Nathalie’s videos that hit online, touching and explains things as well:
So now you’ve met one of my former students, Nathalie, her family and know about her fight… I decided to follow through on the call to action with this post and the following:
Nathalie’s request to take pictures in support of her goal felt connected with the following video from The Art Assignment.
I took pictures and then created a gif (Animoto video) based on something quite important to me: HEALTH- I took my health for granted for way too many years. Unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with some health setbacks recently and found that HEALTH stands out as the most important element I wanted to share with The Art Assignment challenge. So here’s my not-really-a-gif, (I used Animoto to create a movie instead…)
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Thank you again to “Eat the Book” for the Whatever Wednesday meme: http://mretome.wordpress.com David Etkin’s words: “Whatever Wednesday — a chance to post something I’ve seen that I’m diggin’. A cool quote or poster, a picture, student work, a video—you know, Whatever. Enjoy!… and consider posting your own Whatever.”
