In my opinion, books are the best accessory.

Styling Librarian Review: Pull up a chair – Words with Wings

Saturday Book Share:
Words with Wings
 by Nikki Grimes
 – 4th grade and up – This is such a beautiful, touching story! Novels in verse, I never tire of reading them. I loved getting lost in Gabby’s world where she escapes into her mind every time that specific words are said. Additionally, when her parent’s arguing sends her into her mind. Touching book with a lovely teacher who carefully influences Gabby when she has to be welcomed to a new class. I personally LOVED how Nikki Grimes encapsulated how a quiet child moving into a new class might feel when first adjusting to the new place. It is quite touching how a friendship develops and grows within the pages and how Gabby’s teacher’s change of action and perspective helps Gabby thrive and feel successful and happy. I loved reading this whole book… I know it will be appreciated by many readers in the future. So happy it is receiving accolades, prizes, and I look forward to the next BEAUTIFUL Nikki Grimes book! I’m never disappointed!

One side note- I have a book connection that I didn’t expect recently. I sat down to read A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd and realized that there is a strong connection between the two books with the collection of words, imagination, and treasuring of language. So happy I read the books so close to one another because they were a beautiful compliment to one another.

About Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share: I’ve had many books I review that I just want to feature. Simple and easy, celebrate a new book encounter. So that’s what Saturday Book Share is about for me, celebrating books! Perhaps some days I’ll share the book with a short reading of a portion. Or perhaps other days I’ll just share a glimpse of the book.

Goodreads Summary: “Gabby’s world is filled with daydreams. However, what began as an escape from her parents’ arguments has now taken over her life. But with the help of a new teacher, Gabby the dreamer might just become Gabby the writer, and words that carried her away might allow her to soar. Written in vivid, accessible poems, this remarkable verse novel is a celebration of imagination, of friendship, of one girl’s indomitable spirit, and of a teacher’s ability to reach out and change a life.”
