In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
Day 7: Ocean Park Adventure:
We decided to take advantage of the yearly membership to Ocean Park for another family adventure. It was supposed to be a half-day adventure, but that quickly changed when we bumped into some friends when we were getting our tickets at the check in station! So, our friends we hiked with a few days before now were celebrating one of their lovely daughter’s birthdays at Ocean Park! Lucky us, we adventured together throughout Ocean Park.
I was happy to visit the aquarium area where sting rays and other gorgeous creatures were swimming around. I always stand in awe in these areas.
We tried out a new area of Ocean Park called Aqua Voyage that was a nice performance all by humans leading you into the past and under the sea. There was adventure, survival, beautiful dancing, and humor all mixed together. The children especially enjoyed this performance.
A favorite part of wandering through Ocean Park was going to the dolphin hospital area. We got to the area just in time to see how the behaviorists and veterinarian worked together to get x-rays of dolphin’s teeth. It was fascinating to watch. I took a few videos and numerous pictures. It was interesting to see how little chips of ice were a treat after the dolphin followed directions. I haven’t been this close to dolphins before and though I’d honestly prefer for them to be free in their natural environment, it was quite a special experience.
We also rode many rides, visited pandas, and wandered through other areas of the park, there’s never a dull moment there!
After we headed home, my husband and I decided to go swing dancing at Grappa’s Cellar for their New Year swing dance celebration. It is incredible to have energy to do more than one thing in a day, to maintain energy more than a few days in a row, and also to experience all of the adventures my husband and son wish to go on as a whole family. I’m quite greatful for all healthy life experiences!
Normally, I share a weekly reflection on life here in Hong Kong. I’m going to do something a little different for the next eight weeks, I’m going to share our “make lemonade” story. Sure, I’ll probably have other special events within those eight weeks, but I’ve decided that this year, I won’t be as rigid with my Hong Kong reflection posts and if I have an opportunity for quality reflection, I’ll grab it and share!
We planned a family vacation to Malaysia complete with flights, hotels, air b+b’s, and night trains all booked and paid for… then when we headed to the airport, we tried to check in and the airline turned us away… why? Because we needed to have six months or more on our passports and we had five and a half months before renewal. If the airline didn’t turn us away and we flew to Malaysia, we’d be turned away and sent right back to Hong Kong. So… as frustrated as we were, we headed back home and quickly unpacked everything. Then we went out to make the most of the day. Thank goodness my husband and I (and our wonderful son) are able to find solutions… Here are our adventures from
our week in Malaysia our staycation in Hong Kong. We had a fantastic week and enjoyed many different adventures!
