In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
Last week I began a new blog theme, “Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share, any other book bloggers want to join me?
I’ve decided to feature a new book called: I’m the Scariest Thing in the Jungle by David G. Derrick, Jr. this week. This book is a lovely combination of descriptive text, cute characters, and information about the animals. I just love the rivalry between the tiger and the crocodile… it is humorous and oh so cute as a combination at the same time. I think that as a teacher I really appreciate the dialogue between the characters. I would use it as an example of how to mix in information into dialogue in addition to discussing how there is a fun whip-smart argument that occurs through the book. The illustrations additionally bring this book to life in a surprising way, with a combination of fierce creatures warning you to stay away but simultaneously the characters are quite cute. Just watch the book trailer below, you’ll immediately see how charming the illustrations are in addition to having a glimpse of the dialogue! What a pleasure to read… I also love the end page images since they introduce the variety of animals that are part of the story illustration’s background.
Chatting by email I found out that Dave actually visited Hong Kong and posted about his experience and perspective, quite beautiful: http://www.davederrick.com/hong-kong-sketching/
About Pull up a chair, it’s a Saturday Book Share: I’ve had many books I review that I just want to feature. Simple and easy, celebrate a new book encounter. So that’s what Saturday Book Share is about for me, celebrating books! Perhaps some days I’ll share the book with a short reading of a portion. Or perhaps other days I’ll just share a glimpse of the book.
