In my opinion, books are the best accessory.

When I was wandering through my local library folktales section, I kept finding more and more books by Margaret Read MacDonald… and certainly didn’t mind. It looks like she visited Hong Kong a number of years ago and the librarians have wonderfully kept up with her fantastic repertoire of folktales. This is part one of the selections I brought home:
Little Rooster’s Diamond Button retold by Margaret Read MacDonald, illustrated by Will Terry
Slop! A Welsh Folktale retold by Margaret Read MacDonald, illustrated by Yvonne LeBrun Davis
I partnered these two books because they had strong repetitious phrases that are fantastic for a read aloud. I also really appreciated the magic in both stories- one from a rooster which has a magical stomach that can fill up and empty no matter what the content and then the other with an elderly couple who never knew they had a miniature husband and wife living on the other side of the wall in front of their home. One more connection- both books really provide a perfect example of how you should be caring and compassionate to others. I’m quite grateful to discover these books!
Oh, and I found kiwi juice at the store! Couldn’t resist purchasing it…
