The Styling Librarian

In my opinion, books are the best accessory.

Styling Librarian Taking Action #WhateverWednesday

Today’s focus: Taking Action: I appreciate my twitter and Facebook friend David Etkin’s  (@davidaetkin ) Whatever Wednesday meme. It is fun to reflect on one thing each week that really catches my attention, entertains me, and is special enough I just have to share it with the world.

Here’s my Whatever Wednesday Randomness:

I love how inspirational stories are accessible to anyone. We have such wonderful opportunities to share with the world and learn from those around the world:

Vital Voices: The Story of Kakenya: I just loved watching this inspiring story. Wonderful example of a community investing in the education of a child and having a beautiful outcome:

I was inspired recently by George Couros’s post: on digital citizenship, practices, inspiration, and setting the bar too low for our students today. It was an interesting article that made me think, once again, about how our actions can impact others. Thought I’d share this video that I am pretty sure I shared once before, but worth revisiting:

I was alarmed hearing in a group of students this past week the “just kidding” comment where someone makes a comment that really is a putdown and then says “just kidding” it really bothered me. I, of course, had a conversation then and there about the choice but it reminded me that even with the most innocent of kids, they have others modeling some pretty unkind behavior that can be disconcerting.

Here’s someone impacting others: Book Lady/Dolly Parton/Inspiration Library: the organization has given around 50 million free books to children!- thanks to my mom for reminding me about this… PJ Library – an organization that delivers free Jewish books to family-  was inspired by Inspiration Library as well…

I also loved Amy Poehler’s Ask Amy response about volunteering, inspiring:

Fascinating student showing his passion and educating others: go math!

Another student invented an impressive power charger- fascinating what students create:

I just loved this TED Talk called Embrace the Shake- how one artist decided to seize his limitations and expand his creativity in the process, wow.

Loved this video by the way-

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Thank you again to “Eat the Book” for the Whatever Wednesday meme: David Etkin’s words: “Whatever Wednesday — a chance to post something I’ve seen that I’m diggin’. Though often a cool quote or poster, it might simply be a picture.”
