In my opinion, books are the best accessory.
Hello all! We have now hit December! I honestly am shocked at this. Days are zipping by but not regretting time spent so far! What a wonderful, active week it was… always nice to start feeling healthy after fighting a flu for over a week! I enjoyed some exploring, teaching, technology, and busy prep during the week and now am anticipating being offline for three days this coming week when I go with many other teachers and 60 Year 4/third grade students to camp on Chung Chau island in Hong Kong. Also, next week our school is starting a large fundraiser/read-a-thon to gather money to open a library (hopefully two) in Cambodia. We are working in conjunction with the fantastic Room to Read program. Quite happy to be managing this, quite near to my heart. Our school ran a read-a-thon once before two years ago and already opened a library and replenished another library in Cambodia. Quite amazing how a community’s actions can lead to such a beautiful result.
There were a few excursions this past week around Hong Kong:
Recently, at a teacher librarian meeting, the topic of swing dancing came up. I personally have loved dancing since I was a child and have enjoyed swing dancing for fifteen years. I learned that there’s a Hong Kong swing dancing club that meets weekly plus connects with a live band monthly for a dance. What fun! My husband and I went to Grappa’s Cellar – a restaurant in Central, Hong Kong and enjoyed a large live band and some swing dancing. Quite fun to dance again, especially to great live music. While we were in the building where the band/restaurant was we also discovered a little art exhibit on the same floor. There were pretty impressive bird found-object creations there! Popped a few pictures below.
Also met up this past week with @tgaletti who also is a teacher librarian who just moved to Hong Kong to teach at a school after being at the last school for quite a long time. Lovely to meet up and share ideas, shop, and inspire one another. We were happy to discover that both of us had a sweet tooth, so we popped into a candy shop during our adventure along with various other stores- including a book store, of course! We also discovered where the World Wildlife Federation Visitor Centre was opened a few weeks ago, supported WWF by buying a few things including some delicious chocolate and a magazine on animals for my son to read.
I already posted yesterday on my thoughts about technology for the week and began my new theme that I’m hoping to keep weekly on sharing a favorite tool. This past week was a focus on Diigo.
Have a lovely week everyone. Thanks so much for the follows!
